Wohnprojekt Gerthe
For EMSCHERBILDER / EMSCHERGENOSSENSCHAFT
On the grounds of a former forced labor camp in Bochum-Gerthe, the Wohnprojekt Gerthe has transformed nine preserved barracks from the 1940s into a cooperative housing community. Today, 43 adults and 13 children live here in a self-managed, non-ownership model that emphasizes shared responsibility, communal decision-making, and sustainable living practices. My photographic work explores how this space, once marked by hardship, has become a site of collective living and social renewal.
